Unit Updates #2: Legal Affairs
The Legal Affairs Unit at the Federal Investigation Bureau has been hard at work. The Legal Affairs Unit handles all Appeals, Trials and Complaints at the FIB. Ever since they announced that fired workers and VIP’s who had their status revoked can appeal, they’ve been getting more and more cases. Our interviewer at the News Team, Aleida, asked the Chief Justice, Sarah-, a Clerk, Thomas., and a Judge, WhoIAm, questions about the LA.
Do you believe that the cases taken up by LA are treated with justice for all parties?
Sarah-: Yes. We treat all cases the same way. Our own opinions do not come into the decisions we make. Our decisions are based on the information we are given by both parties.
Thomas.: I believe that LA cases are treated with justice, because everything that the applicant has done is either against the Code of Conduct (CoC) and they receive that right consequences.
WhoIAm: Yes, we always prepare and execute it equally for both parties, as a judge myself sometimes its hard when giving the verdict, you are giving in, it isn’t the same as your own heart. But, its justice, either I like it or not, it should be served.
LA has been getting a lot of attention recently; do you believe it’s because more disciplinary actions are occurring?
Sarah-: I believe it’s because people are finally understanding their rights and if they disagree with their punishment they are more than happy to submit a case and fight for what is right.
Thomas.: I do indeed believe it’s because of the disciplinary actions. It tells the other workers that they don’t need to worry about people doing things bad and them getting away with it.
WhoIAm: Yes, since almost all of our latest cases are categorized under Court of Appeal and those people (I guess) still can’t believe that they got into trouble.
What are your thoughts on LA as a unit?
Sarah-: TOTALLY SICK DUDDEEEE
Thomas.: I think that LA is a great unit as it helps people get justice on their situations and if they sign up for a CoA (court of appeal) and they get rejected they know what to do and what not to do next time around in other situations.
WhoIAm: It’s a fun unit, even though we don’t seem like one, lol. We do take cases seriously but we always have some chance to turn that serious moment to a cheerful one.
Do you feel like there's more room for improvement in LA? If so what are your suggestions?
Sarah-: We are still inducting new members, and with that comes struggles as they find their feet and understand how the unit works. But every unit has room for improvements as we will work to make LA the best unit possible.
Thomas.: At the moment, I think LA is doing alright but there can certainly be more things to work on in the future.
WhoIAm: Yes, we always have more room to improve either in court or daily. Well, for improvement all I can think now is the External Affair that (I hope) will be realized soon since it might be a new division under LA and I hope the Foundation accepts it.
The LA has been doing fantastic work for the FIB over the past couple of months. Many of their workers live in different time zones which makes their job even harder. Thank you, on behalf of the NT, for working for the good of the FIB!
