comets.
born of the sun, moon and horizon, a young girl
sat by a crescent in lone melancholy. despite the
zillion of galaxies that surround her, she felt chained
to a never-ending orbit that continues on for
a million years.
she asked the sun, "why do these planets orbit
around you?" which the sun replied "because i'm
their source of energy. i give them light as well
as heat."
she questioned the sun again, "will there ever
come a time when i could give others light and
heat in the darkest days?" the sun did not give
much of a reply other than a sneer.
sensing the sun's disdain to her question, she
questioned the moon, hoping it was willing to
open up to her. "moon, why do you only appear
at night?"
the moon answered bitterly, "the sun is brighter
that me. i only appear when the planets need me
too. some do not acknowledge my presence."
she then encouraged the moon, "but without you,
the stars would not have shone, the tides of the day
would be deranged. so why do you feel bitter when
all of these rely on you?"
it answered bittersweetly, "i am happy you
acknowledged me. it seems as though you were
the only one who saw my worth."
the girl contemplated the moon and sun's answer.
the sun scorned at the celestial bodies other than
itself while the moon didn't seem content with
what it had succeeded.
"i see that you interviewed the sun and moon, such
a big difference in their point of view." a small, but
wise voice answered.
"the sun was scornful, while the moon was bitter." she
replied, dazed by the small object's beauty. the beautiful
enigma chuckled. "they both defied the principles of life."
"what do you mean?" the girl asked, confused. the
shining star then pointed to the different stars. "don't you
see, how different those stars are? they're so small
compared to the sun and moon, but people talk to them
about their dreams. in return, they tell them stories and tales."
"it doesn't matter how big or small one is, they can give
light to the world." it continued. "the moon became weary
of the sun's achievements yet it failed to acknowledge its
own. it became bitter because it rivaled with itself." the girl
peered at the shining object, encouraging it to continue.
"you are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and
stars. you have the right to be here and whether or not it is
clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should."
with that said, the shining star shot around the sky, leaving
the girl in astonishment.
a few days later, she found herself in the same old routine,
but she no longer felt lonely. she was on her own, but a
comforting presence was there within her soul to remind her
she wasn't alone.
